PIPER HOLLAND

PIPER HOLLAND

Who is Piper?

Hi, I’m Piper Holland, and some might say I am as free as a bird. My bubbly personality and general outlook on life has led me to follow my heart in everything I do. And I never give up until I achieve my goal. Like when I decided to walk a marathon on the treadmill — all while reading as many books as I could. Or teaching myself how to crochet since I wanted to recreate a one-of-a-kind vintage shirt. Or skydiving for the first time at thirteen, just because I wanted to feel the feeling of flying through the air.

Even the time I left my beloved hometown of Los Angeles for the foreign city of Syracuse — having never visited before —because I thought it would be fun to experience all four seasons (along with the School of Design, of course). I love to take risks — within reason — so I can experience the most fulfilling life. And although Los Angeles will always be my home and have my heart, I am willing to relocate.

I am a very passionate person and care deeply about every single thing I do. All through my early life, I was known for being “extra”, especially within school projects. I was the art girl, always coming up with the most outlandish ideas for the simplest book reports*, but I was thrilled to find my penchant for school projects would pay off one day. My love for everything creative and my unique ideas could be finally applied to the “real world” with design.

Now that I’ve graduated from book reports, my biggest interests are fashion and beauty, but I am open to anything and everything, as I never know what will spark my creativity.

I adore design because I get to do the things I love the most: artistic application, coming up with creative ideas, and solving problems. Always evolving and soaring to new places, my design will always be bright and playful, just like me!

Let’s fly to new design heights together, I can’t wait to work with you!

*When I mean outlandish, one example could be the time I constructed a diorama the size of a middle schooler out of soap as a not-required component to an essay just because I liked the idea.

Why Sandpipers?

I used to be terrified of Sandpipers. Weird, I know, but I was young and overall irked they shared my name. But then one day recently, I was walking on the beach with my sister and my opinion changed.

I remember looking at the little birds and how even though I didn’t exactly like them, they didn’t care. They just kept running back and forth to the waves, and despite that they are little and wouldn’t stand a chance if a big swell swept them away, they didn’t give up. And I wasn’t afraid of them anymore, I was inspired by them.

Along with never quitting, I resonate with many aspects of the sandpipers. They have a strong sense of community and love being with others, also being quick thinkers. They’re known for being playful, and cherish the feeling of being flexible and adaptable, but remain true to themselves. While I once didn’t understand my name twin, I now resonate deeply with them, both within my personality and design.
